    Cyclone and LIPO's

Before I invest in a couple of LIPO batteries, does anyone have any experience of which ones will fit, hopefully without having to dremmel away any of the motor mount etc?

I have the Trakpower 4900 and Orion 4800 and both fit nicely in the cyclone without any modifications.

I have a Demon 5000 mAh LiPo which fits with no modification... other than about half a ton of lead weight to bring the car back up to 1500g

It is now done about 40 runs (7 meetings) with no noticeable drop off in performance.

I ran the Orion 4800 one in my car at the NEC yesterday. You will need to file about 1mm off the bottom of the top deck mount otherwise you risk tweaking the car a little as the pack will run. Other than this it fits fine.

I filed 1mm-2mm of the top deck mount as this was pushing on the LiPo pack.
The screw in that side of the mount is already short, so just file it back to the screw length.
I run Trackpower 4900 (orion 4800 as a practice pack due to less punch but more duration).

    Cyclone WCE and LIPO's

I see there are a few bits you can buy for the TC5 (and others) to help secure in the LIPO packs. Does anyone running LIPO's (in my case Trakpower) in their cyclone do anything more than just use battery tape?? I was just wondering how secure they are in the event of getting a knock!

Just the battery tape works for me. I usually strap it in at the beginning of the meeting and don't bother to take it out until I get home. I've had a couple of pretty big shunts and the battery hasn't moved.

The only thing I have done is place a couple of weights on the centre line of the chassis (under the belt by the motor mount) as a precaution to stop the battery fouling on the the pinion if it were to slide. The gap between the battery case and the pinion, using the Demon 5000, is only a couple of milli-metres.

I too have the Demon 5000 mAh Lipo and bought some "lipo locators" which are basically little bits of carbon graphite that you super glue to the bottom of the pack and they locate into the battery slots on the chassis. Once taped in the pack isn't going anywhere

    Hi,

I have the Cyclone S plastic kit, with the Demon 5000 lipo. I've stuck a few wieghts on it to make it up to the 1500 mark (quite good for plastic i thought ;-). Question is, should i weight the battery up to the usual 420g or will it be ok being out of balance ?

    Cheers
    Nicky

As long as the left to right balnce of the car is equal you don't have to make the battery up to 420g.

The good thing about Lipo is that you can get the car to the 1500g and put weight where you need it to balance the car.
