    timescale of brushed motors

With all the latest technology with brushless motors will the brushed stock motors be fazed out? if so, what sort of time scale? i don't want to spend out for a brushless system for quite sometime.

tbh, your looking at 12 months - 2 years easy before 27 turn fizzles out, if it does that is. At the moment they are running them side by side, but i see over the next few months, edging towards the worlds, you will see a dramatic drop in price for Speedos and motors as they become more widely produced the cost of manufacturing will be reduced. Once the phase of "new technology so we must overcharge" goes, brushless i see will be just as cheap as brushed motors we see today.

Probably never, in the general scheme of things. Despite the fact that this forum is overrun by the BL switch and its implications, the Club scene remains dominated by BR motors. It will take years for that to disappear, and it will only start when all the RTR kits come with BL. Losi (I think) have begun that, but the big guns (Japanese and Chinese) haven't even started.

I, like you, want to put off my BL investment for as long as I can, as I don't want to be caught up in the 'money-race' that will ensue to keep up with the new developments that will come in waves once there are Rules for BL Stock/Spec classes.

My view is that we have at least five years before there is any danger of BR motors being rare in the shops, let alone being unavailable. After that, it might whittle down to a few specialist suppliers, but what with the Internet and all that, getting BR won't be an issue to many years after that. HTH

arnt some companys still developing stock motors, didnt i see somewhere one with different shape brushes(reedy stockstar). why would they spend money on developing if its not going to be cost effective?? i think like PDW said five years because of club racers like myself who are waiting to see what happens. At the club where i race we have just aloud the use of bl in championships for the first time and got and excellant deal from a company because they bought 15 bl systems @ £120 for speedo and motor. They went like hot cakes on a cold day!plummers

"My view is that we have at least five years before there is any danger of BR motors being rare in the shops"

This above quote may not be quite true, as a shop owner over only the last 2 months it has become very hard to obtain 27 turn Roar can motors as no one seems to be buying them in to distribute anymore, I placed orders 2 months ago and still no show, out of the 4 companies I deal with who used to supply me with them 2 of them are the no shows and the other 2 no longer list them on there websites, lets hope this is just a manufacturer delay.

Mark, not surprised to see you have problems getting ROAR motors as the main market for stock motors is of course the US.

as they allow the CO27 / X stock et all which are "ilegal" in the UK (though given there is no longer a 27 T class in the BRCA are there still rules coevering the motor spec??) these motors are quicker than the Roars / monsters so there is no incentive for the manufacturers to produce them.

Its very frustrating as many customers prefer a high reving Roar, me too. I spoke to CML who said they will be sending their new Reedy 27t and 19t motors to the brca for approval, I think this is so that other series such as STCC and BTCC who still run a 27t stock class can get a motor list of similar motors for this years series's.
