My 713 was pretty good until it went pop, got it back after 5 week repair wait and will be back in my car in the new year. The 713 is definitely a good servo to upgrade from the basic ones you get with your radio gear but is still short of a top range one. I intend to get a faster KO servo in a couple of months and use the 713 as a backup.

Like a lot of FET servos, they will fail if they are overloaded or driven backwards by a crash. This is because the currents are that much higher. 6 volt FET servos are much more rugged in this regard. If you use a four wire servo, be sure to use a saver, and make sure the saver isn't set so tight as to not do its job. KO servos have a sacrificial plastic gear right next to the motor in an effort to prevent electrical damage on big impacts, but its 50:50 whether that fails or the electronics do.

I have a 712 and a 713. IME, the difference is really small on the track. If you haven't already bought the 713 and are thinking this 'blue lead' business is a bit of a faff, then get the 712.

If you have bought the 713, then you can connect the blue lead from the servo to the red (+ve) lead from the servo and run it on 6v. I have run all sorts of KO servos this way for testing cars. The performance difference is marginal on the track, and the servos don't suffer from interference from the speedo (ie, you don't need the choke).

I agree with everyone about how good this servo is - I have busted one set of gears in extreme circumstances (testing car, no body, hit fence, prat!) and otherwise they have been faultless for years.

Will the servo saver off the Losi XXXs standard(it has 2 silver clips and a gold one) be ok with the 713?
    Cheers Chris

Thanx. Will I notice much difference from a standard hitec(£5) to the 713?

Marcus's answer is short sweet and completely correct. The 713 will be much better than a standard one and you will notice the difference instantly.

The servo won't operate without the FET lead and Choke connected. I requires the direct power to move the servo so you have to have it.
